In Florida, we know all about prescription drug abuse, and we also know that heroin is the most popular alternative. After the Florida pill mill bust in 2010, millions of prescription pain pills were seized, hundreds of doctors lost their licenses, and new regulations were put on pharmacy’s and how many pills a physician can prescribe their patients.

For the past two years, while a majority of the Kardashian clan has kept their names and faces in the tabloids, one of them fell out of the lime light, and that’s Rob Kardashian. His family has been very candid on their television show about the struggles that Rob had been going through, and while no one has assumed he’s struggling with substance abuse, it was clear that he was severely depressed.

Within a new report released by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), the number of heroin overdoses in the United States between 2010 and 2013 has nearly tripled effectively causing an increase in Florida as well. However, if you look at the opposing side of how addicts treat chronic pain, the number of overdoses from prescription painkillers has decreased.

When you look at addiction throughout the state of Florida, it's clear that over the past few years illicit drug use has become an epidemic regardless of the area. However, with that being said, there are some areas where certain drug addictions have reached epidemic proportions even with drug addiction continuing to be the forefront of making the public conscious and aware of the dangers.

Alcoholism is a horrible disease regardless of who is battling it, whether it's a man or a woman, adult or teen, it's a serious condition that takes a serious toll on those with the condition as well as their loved ones. However, there is a difference when you look at alcoholism in men and in women - while both are equally serious, there are some shocking statistics that show the increase with alcoholism in women.
