The Differences Between Sober Living housing and Halfway Houses

Regardless of the differences that we delve into within this post, both sober living housing and halfway houses aim to achieve the same goal, and that’s to help those who have struggled to regain control of their life in a supportive environment. Many of those who are not educated within the area of addiction often confuse sober living homes with halfway houses, which is understandable simply by looking at the name. However, they do differ in some large ways.

Key Differences Between Sober Living Housing and Halfway Houses

The biggest difference between these two recovery programs is that halfway houses are often for those who have either been released from prison or jail. These homes provide them with a reintegration tools to help them ease back into society. More often than not, these halfway homes will also offer substance abuse treatment, but that’s not their primary focus. They more so focus on daily groups and meetings that help them learn how to better socialize with others, and to help those possibly struggling with mental disorders gain more control. Halfway homes are also government funded and either low-cost or free.

Florida Recovery Group, a Delray recovery center is a private residence. They provide support for those who are struggling with a substance abuse problem and cannot control their urges on their own. The structure of these homes and the pricing is different from halfway homes. Sober living is usually voluntary whereas a halfway house is court mandated.

Benefits of Sober Living Homes

Sober living aims to help an addict in recovery reintegrate themselves back into society with a clearer head on their shoulders. By creating individual recovery plans, those who voluntarily enter a sober living home will not only build a healthy network of sober friends, but they’ll also be able to properly apply what they learned in treatment to their lives outside of treatment.
